What Is Hardwood?

Wood from broadleaf trees that is commonly used for durable doors, trim, flooring, and millwork.

Hardwood is wood derived from broadleaf tree species such as oak, maple, birch, and poplar. In interior millwork, hardwoods are selected for their appearance, machining characteristics, durability, and finishing properties.

Buying Considerations

Choose a specific species rather than relying only on the general term hardwood. Species differ in grain, hardness, color, movement, and response to paint or stain.
