What Is Door Jamb?

The vertical and horizontal members that form the sides and top of a door opening and support the door.

A door jamb is the frame component against which the door closes and to which the hinges and latch hardware interface. A typical assembly includes hinge, strike, and head jamb components.

Buying Considerations

Measure wall thickness and confirm jamb depth, stop location, extension requirements, and hardware preparation. The jamb must be sized and installed correctly for the door to swing and latch properly.
