What Is Door Handing?

The designation used to describe which side of a door is the hinge side and how the door is configured to operate.

Door handing identifies the hinge side and operating orientation of a door. Handing conventions can differ depending on whether the door is viewed from the push or pull side, so the supplier's stated convention should always be followed.

Buying Considerations

Use the same viewing convention shown by the door supplier or hardware manufacturer when specifying left/right or reverse handing. When possible, document the hinge side and swing direction in a drawing or schedule.
