Most of our MDF moldings are made with pre-consumer recycled wood making them a very GREEN and sustainable product. MDF moldings are a great choice for paint-grade applications where cost savings are required.
Poplar is a hardwood with typically straight, uniform grain with medium texture. Its color can vary from a light cream to yellowish brown with occasional streaks of gray or green. Poplar moldings are often stained to look like other more expensive woods like Cherry but also can be painted. It is very easy to work with and is among the most economical and inexpensive of all domestic hardwoods. As with all wood moldings additional surface preparation maybe necessary and is recommended.
FJP Poplar (primed finger joint poplar) (insert base or casing or crown) moldings are made from short pieces of Poplar wood, finger jointed and glued together. This creates longer pieces than can normally be achieved from a single log without any of the defects and knots. All Primed FJ moldings have trim-backs. Trim-backs occur during manufacturing when the mounding comes through the molder at the correct length ordered, but a defect is spotted. Rather than throw the whole piece of molding away, the defect is cut out, leaving varied lengths. Therefore when ordering FJP Poplar up to 15% may come shorter than normally ordered.
